Troubleshooting

Follow these interactive diagnostics steps to quickly resolve any connection, data synchronization, or hardware issues you may encounter during the setup or operation of SolarTools Gateway devices.

Gateway Live Diagnostic Panel

LED Indicator Status Meanings

Ref: ST-GW-DIAG-v2
POWER

Solid Green: Power normal. If the LED is completely off, verify adapter connections and outlet voltage.

WAN / INTERNET

Flashing Blue: Internet active. If red or off, check your ethernet cable connection or GSM SIM card signal strength.

DATA

Rapid Flashing Orange: Active data read over Modbus/OPC-UA. If off, device addresses or RS485 polarity might be incorrect.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing connection drops or your portal data is not updating, follow these 3 main steps sequentially to pinpoint and resolve the problem in minutes:

01

Physical & Power Check

Ensure that the gateway adapter is firmly plugged in and the supply voltage (24VDC/12VDC) is correct. Verify if the RS485 A-B polarities are not reversed.

02

IP & Network Configuration

If using a wired connection, coordinate with your network administrator to verify that the DHCP server assigns an IP correctly and the assigned static IP doesn't clash with other devices.

03

Certificate & Protocol Validation

If you see [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] in the gateway logs, verify that the device's date and time are synchronized and updated via the NTP server.

Critical Reset Notice

If a factory reset is required, press and hold the physical "Reset" button on the device panel for 10 seconds while it is powered on. This resets all network configuration to default and prompts the gateway to automatically pull its latest profile from the cloud.

Common Error Codes & Resolutions

The table below lists the most common error codes displayed in the SolarTools Gateway diagnostic log and how to resolve them:

Error CodePotential CauseResolution ActionPriority
ERR_MODBUS_TIMEOUTMeter/Inverter communications cable disconnected or address mismatch.Check RS485 wiring polarity and confirm the Modbus Slave ID of the target device.High
ERR_MQTT_DISCONNECTLocal firewall or outbound port blocking MQTT port (8883).Contact your IT administrator to open port 8883 for outbound SolarTools cloud services.Medium
ERR_NTP_OUT_OF_SYNCGateway system time is out of sync with cloud time by more than 5 minutes.Update NTP settings on the device dashboard and verify local DNS resolution.Low
