Register / Point management

In the SolarTools IoT infrastructure, the configurations that contain the data mapping and memory addresses of your edge devices are called Register (Template) Management. This allows you to easily specify which data will be pulled from which addresses for every sensor, inverter, or meter.

By following the interactive flow and detailed steps below, you can create new device profiles, map register addresses (holding, input, etc.), and apply these templates to hundreds of devices with a single click.

Register Configuration Lifecycle

You can visualize the general outline of the data mapping processes in the animated flow chart below:

Template Creation

Define a new device profile (e.g. Inverter 50kW).

Register Mapping

Map Modbus/OPC addresses to data types.

Test & Validate

Test the accuracy of data types and multipliers.

Deploy to Edge

Deploy the created template to the field Gateway.

Step by Step Register & Template Management

Please follow the steps below sequentially. Hover over the visuals under the cards to see details using the magnifier; click to examine in full screen:

1

Pre-built Templates & New Profiles

From the Register Management or Device Profiles tab of the portal, you can view existing templates (ABB, Huawei, etc.). To map from scratch, use the Add New Template button. Name the profile by entering device type, manufacturer, and model.

2

Adding Register Addresses (Modbus/OPC)

Once inside the profile, refer to the device's documentation to define the addresses to be read (e.g. Holding Register 40001, Voltage). Carefully configure the data type (Float32, Int16 etc.), read/write access, and (if any) the multiplier value.

3

Updating and Deleting Templates

Over time, you may need to alter your templates due to firmware updates or field requirements. Select the relevant template to edit existing registers or delete unused old profiles.

4

Deploying to Gateway

Once your template configuration is complete, you must apply this structure to the field devices. By selecting this profile in the Connector settings, you can instantly push (deploy) the configuration to the Gateway.

Pro Tip: Multipliers and Data Transformation

Register values often arrive in raw format (e.g. device sending 22050 instead of 220.5V). By specifying the correct multiplier (e.g. 0.1) when adding the data address, you can ensure values appear correctly (220.5 V) directly on the platform.
