Add device

New devices can be added to the platform through the device management module, device configurations can be managed and connection processes can be initialized.

What is included in this section?

  • Device list screen
  • Creating a new device
  • Device information configuration
  • Gateway settings
  • Connection details
  • Device management operations

When is it used?

  • When adding a new field device to the platform
  • When configuring gateway connections
  • When connecting MQTT devices to the platform
  • When using new device profiles
  • When retrieving device connection credentials

Device List

Before starting the device creation process, existing devices can be reviewed from the Devices List screen. This page displays the device connection status, assigned profile, device type and facility information together.

  • A search field can be used to find a specific device.
  • Filters can be applied to narrow devices by type or assigned facility.
  • The active status of the device can be checked from the Status field.
  • Device details can be viewed or delete operations can be started from the action icons located on the right side of each row.
  • To add a new device, use the “Add Device” button located at the top right of the screen.

New Device Creation

In the new device creation screen, users can define which organization the device belongs to, which profile it will use, which communication protocol will be used and how the device will be grouped within the platform. The following steps demonstrate a sample device onboarding process.

Device creation steps

  1. Enter the device name. A clear and unique name should be used so the device can be easily identified in the device list.
  2. Select facility and organization. These fields determine under which organization and facility the device will operate.
  3. Evaluate the gateway option. If the device will collect data from other devices or manage connected devices, the gateway option should be enabled.
  4. Select the device profile. The selected profile should match the telemetry structure of the device. For example, Fleet Vehicle Profile can be used for vehicle tracking devices.
  5. Choose the device type. This field defines whether the device will operate as a sensor, gateway, inverter, logger or controller within the platform.
  6. Verify the transport protocol. Devices sending data via MQTT should keep the transport protocol set to MQTT.
  7. Add technical details. Firmware version, model and vendor information can be entered to simplify technical monitoring processes.
  8. Add labels and descriptions. Labels can be used to filter, group or categorize devices across dashboards and management screens.
  9. Save the device. After all information is completed, the device can be added to the platform by clicking the “Add Device” button.
Tip — Selecting the correct device profile for devices using the same telemetry structure helps maintain consistent telemetry and topic configurations across the platform.
